Network for Innovation in Clinical Research (NICR)

Network for Innovation in Clinical Research (NICR)

In 2010, the University of Toronto cardiovascular clinical trials initiative was announced. The purpose of this initiative was to conduct single and multi-centre trials under the leadership of the University of Toronto cardiovascular clinical investigators. As a result of these early discussions, a more comprehensive network was proposed whereby all parties involved in cardiovascular clinical research at the University work together on important grant funded and industry-sponsored initiatives. Objectives of NICR include:
  1. To create a network whereby investigator-initiated or sponsor-initiated clinical research could be proposed by any of the member organizations and these initiatives would involve all pertinent parties within the University of Toronto network.
  2. To utilize the available resources and expertise at the University of Toronto to help support these initiatives. The core facilities would include: data management and statistical core; core lab facilities for electrocardiographic, MRI, CT and ECG; events adjudication committees; data safety monitoring committees; continuing medical education and educational activities revolving around research initiatives and novel devices and drugs; and fellowships and advanced training for house staff and junior faculty in clinical investigation.
  3. To promote the network’s activities on an international level using the combined resources of our member organizations.
  4. To reach out to international partners through an international NICR initiative.
