University of Toronto’s Heart & Stroke/Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence in Cardiovascular Research (HSRLCE) was established in 1999. Our mission is to foster a collaborative research and educational environment, locally and internationally, that transforms cardiovascular health. Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 cause of death worldwide, killing more than 17 million people worldwide each year.
The Centre’s vision is to conquer cardiovascular disease through research and education. We prioritize the importance of training the next generation of research leaders. We provide undergraduate awards, studentships and fellowships to trainees to afford them the opportunity to train alongside our members on research projects focused on prevention and cure of cardiovascular disease. Our members are involved in bench to bedside translational research with a focus on innovation and first-in man clinical trials.
