HSRLCE Undergraduate Awards: HSBC Future Research Leaders Internships

DESCRIPTION
The Heart & Stroke/Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence (HSRLCE, the Centre) offers four summer undergraduate awards to enable students to work alongside scientists in cardiovascular research laboratories associated with the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre.

Recipients of the 2025/26 HSBC Future Research Leaders Internships are:

Syed Turab Hasan, MD Program
PROJECT: Impact of Specialized HF Care on Short- and Long-term Outcomes in Heart Failure Patients Undergoing CABG Revascularization
Supervisor: Dr. Ana Carolina Alba

Shubh Patel, MD Program
PROJECT: A Randomized Trial of Empagliflozin for SGLT2 Inhibition in Fontan Circulatory Failure
Supervisor: Dr. Subodh Verma

Huidan Zuo, Pathobiology Specialist
PROJECT: Understanding the Inflammatory Impact of Breast Cancer on the Cardiovascular System
Supervisor: Dr. Jason Fish

The Centre’s undergraduate awards, funded by the HSBC, are intended to support our future research leaders in the initial phase of their training. The objective of these awards is to support a robust and productive research community in Toronto. These awards are made to those who demonstrate the potential for excellence through their previous academic accomplishments and the environment in which they will work.
